Terms of Service
Simple Host and Simple Hack · last updated 2026-10-01
The short version. This summary is here to help you read. The full terms below are what count.
- Simple Host is free. It comes as it is, with no promises, and it can change or stop.
- What you publish is yours, and so is the responsibility for it. That includes what your sites collect from visitors.
- No illegal content, no stolen work, no scams, no malware, no abuse of children. We remove it and may close your account.
- Intimate images of a person shared without consent come down within 48 hours of a valid request.
- To report a site, use the report form or email support@simple-host.app with its address and what is wrong.
- Keep your own copies. Sites and data can be lost.
Who we are and what these terms cover
Simple Host is run by Vineet Sriram, an individual (“we”, “us”). These terms are an agreement between you and us.
They cover the service at simple-host.app. That includes sites at their <site>.<handle>.simple-host.app addresses, your <handle>.simple-host.app page, the old sites.simple-host.app address, free <name>.simple-host.app addresses, sites on your own domain served by us, the dashboard, the API, and the Simple Host connector for AI apps.
They also cover Simple Hack at simple-hack.app, its event pages at <event>.simple-hack.app, team projects at <team>.<event>.simple-hack.app, and its API and connector at https://simple-hack.app/mcp. Organisers are responsible for their event rules and judging decisions; participants are responsible for the projects they publish. The acceptable-use and reporting rules below apply to both services.
By using the service you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use Simple Host.
Simple Host is also open-source software. These terms do not cover copies of it that other people run themselves, such as a private instance for a hackathon. Whoever runs that copy is responsible for it.
What Simple Host is
Simple Host publishes static websites. Each site can also save small amounts of data, such as RSVPs, votes, comments or orders.
You can use it from the dashboard, from an AI app through the Simple Host connector (ChatGPT, Claude, Grok and others), from a coding agent with an API key, or through the API.
It is free, and it can change
There are no paid plans. We do not promise it will stay free.
We may change, limit or stop any part of the service at any time. That includes limits on how much you can host or save. We will try to give notice of big changes, but we do not have to.
Your account
- You sign in with Google or with a code we email you.
- You must be at least 13 years old. If your country sets a higher age for using online services without a parent's consent, you must be at least that age.
- If you are under 18, or not old enough to make a contract where you live, a parent or guardian must agree to these terms for you.
- Keep your sign-in email, API key and connected apps secure. You are responsible for everything done with your account.
- If you think someone else is using your account, choose Sign out everywhere on your page (every key stops working and every sign-in ends) and tell us.
AI apps and AI-built sites
When you connect an AI app, it acts for you. It can publish, change and delete your sites and their data. Everything it does counts as done by you. You can disconnect an app at any time from your sites page.
AI makes mistakes. A site an AI builds may contain wrong facts, broken features, content that belongs to someone else, or forms that collect more than you meant. Review every site before you publish it and before you share it. You are responsible for it exactly as if you had written it yourself.
What is public
- Every page is public unless you put a passcode on the whole site. Anyone with the link can see it. A passcode keeps out people who don’t have it, such as search engines, link previews and anyone who finds or is forwarded the link without it. Anyone you give it to can open the site and pass it on. It is not a login, it doesn’t tell you who visited, and it doesn’t make saved data private per person. Pages people already opened may stay in their browser, and Simple Host can still read the site.
- Saved data is public by default. Anyone can read the lists and data a site saves (on a site with a passcode, anyone who has the passcode).
- Private lists and Personal records are the exceptions. You can mark a list private: only you and the Simple Host operator can read it all, and each visitor sees what they sent. A Personal record is readable only by its person and by the site's own pages.
Do not put passwords, secrets or sensitive personal information in a page or in public data.
Acceptable use: what you may not do
You may not use Simple Host to publish, store, link to or send anything that:
- is illegal where you are, or in the United States, or helps someone break the law;
- infringes someone else's copyright, trademark, privacy or other rights;
- contains malware, viruses or harmful code, or tries to trick people into downloading it;
- is phishing, a scam or fraud, or collects other people's sign-in details;
- pretends to be another person, company or organisation, or suggests a connection that does not exist;
- harasses, threatens, bullies, or encourages violence against anyone;
- promotes terrorism or violent extremism, or recruits, funds or glorifies it;
- attacks or dehumanises people for who they are, such as their race, religion, nationality, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability or age;
- encourages suicide, self-harm or eating disorders, or gives instructions for them;
- shares someone's private information or intimate images without their consent;
- is sexually explicit, pornographic, or otherwise adult content, or is aimed at selling adult products or services;
- sells or advertises sexual services, or facilitates human trafficking;
- sexually exploits or endangers children in any way (see below);
- is spam, or is used to send or advertise spam;
- exists mainly to game search engines or to send visitors elsewhere: doorway pages, link farms, keyword stuffing, cloaking (showing search engines something different from what visitors see), pages that redirect straight to another site, or sites that are only advertising or affiliate links;
- makes false health or medical claims that are likely to put people in danger;
- misleads voters about when, where or how to vote;
- uses manipulated or made-up images, audio or video to deceive people about real events.
Satire, parody and opinion are fine.
Goods and services. Whether or not it is legal where you are, do not use Simple Host to sell, promote or take orders for: weapons, ammunition or explosives; illegal drugs, drug paraphernalia, or prescription medicines; tobacco, vapes or nicotine; real-money gambling; adult content or sexual services; counterfeit or stolen goods; fake IDs or forged documents; get-rich-quick, pyramid or advance-fee schemes; or loans, debt relief, credit repair, investments or cryptocurrency offerings, unless you are licensed to offer them and say who licensed you. Anything else that needs a licence needs you to have it.
Sensitive data. Your sites may not collect:
- payment card numbers or bank details;
- health or medical information;
- government ID numbers, such as Social Security, passport or driver's licence numbers;
- passwords for any service.
Simple Host is not built to protect that kind of data. Use a service made for it, such as a payment provider.
Names and addresses. Do not choose a handle, site name or free <name>.simple-host.app address that is misleading. That includes names of brands, companies, banks, government bodies or people you are not, or names that are offensive. Do not say or suggest that Simple Host made, checked or endorses your site.
The service itself. Simple Host is for websites people read. Do not use it:
- as a file store, download mirror, backup or CDN for another site or app, or to serve files hot-linked from elsewhere;
- to mine cryptocurrency in visitors' browsers, or to run any script that uses visitors' devices for something they did not ask for;
- as a proxy, VPN, redirector or scraper;
- to hold handles, site names or free addresses you do not use, or to sell or trade them;
- to send email or messages to people who did not ask for them.
Do not try to break, overload, probe or get around Simple Host's security or limits, and do not interfere with other people's sites or accounts. Do not create accounts in bulk or by automation. One person per account: do not sell, rent or share your account or keys.
Rate limits and size caps apply to everyone. If a site uses far more bandwidth or storage than a normal website, we may limit it or ask you to move it. We tell you first where we can.
Security problems. If you find a weakness in Simple Host, email support@simple-host.app with the subject “Security”. Test only against your own sites and data, and give us time to fix it before telling others. We do not act against good-faith reports that follow this.
Child sexual abuse material: zero tolerance
We do not allow any content that sexually exploits children, including drawn, AI-generated or edited images. When we find it or are told about it, we remove it, close the account, keep the evidence the law requires, and report it to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) and to law enforcement. We do not warn the account first.
Intimate images shared without consent
We remove intimate images or videos of a person that were published without their consent. That includes realistic edited or AI-generated ones.
If you are the person shown, or you act for them, email support@simple-host.app with the subject “Intimate image removal”, or use the report form. Include:
- your signature (typing your full name is enough);
- the exact URL of each image, video or page;
- a statement that you believe in good faith the image shows you and was published without your consent, and enough for us to tell it is you;
- how we can reach you.
We remove it as soon as we can, and within 48 hours of a valid request, and we make reasonable efforts to remove identical copies on the service. We tell you what we did. Minors, and their parents or guardians, can use this process. We are not liable to anyone for removing content in good faith under this section.
Your content
- You own it. What you publish stays yours.
- You give us permission to run it. You let us store, copy, back up, process and serve your content, worldwide and free of charge. We use this only to run, secure and improve the service, and to enforce these terms. It ends when your content is deleted from the service and from our backups.
- You have the rights. You confirm you own your content or have permission to publish it, and that it follows these terms and the law.
- You are responsible for it. We do not check what people publish before it goes live, and we do not have to. We are not responsible for content that users publish.
Data your sites collect from visitors
If your site asks visitors for anything (names, emails, RSVPs, survey answers, orders), you are the one collecting it. You decide what to collect and why. We store it for you.
- Follow the privacy and consumer laws that apply to you and your visitors. Depending on where they are, this may include laws such as the GDPR in Europe or state privacy laws in the US.
- Tell visitors what you collect, why, who can see it, and how to ask you to delete it. If what they submit will be public, say so plainly.
- Collect only what you need. Do not collect the sensitive data listed above.
- Handle visitors' requests to see or delete their data. You can edit or delete items in private lists yourself.
- Private lists record the verified email of each visitor who submits. You see that email. Use it only for the reason you collected it.
- Children. Do not make a site aimed at children under 13 (or the higher age where you are) that collects personal information from them. If you learn your site has a child's details, delete them.
- Things people keep to themselves. Collect a person's religion, sexual orientation, ethnicity, immigration status, precise location or biometrics only if you truly need them, the law allows it, and you say so where you ask.
We are not responsible for how you use data your site collects.
What saved data is for
The data a site saves is for that site and its visitors: RSVPs, orders, votes, comments, a visitor's own records. Do not use it:
- as a database or API for another app, service or site;
- to store data copied from somewhere else, or about people who never used your site;
- as a relay for messages, files or links between people or programs;
- to keep anything the sensitive-data rules forbid.
Public data can be read by anyone, and on the shared host written by anyone. Do not keep anything there that would matter if a stranger changed it.
Selling things from a site
You can take orders on a site. Payment happens with a payment provider, such as Stripe, PayPal or a payment link, never by typing card or bank details into a page hosted here. You are the seller. You are responsible for describing the goods honestly, delivering them, refunds, taxes, and the consumer laws where your buyers are. We are not part of the sale.
Reporting a site
If a site hosted here is illegal, abusive, a scam, or breaks these terms, use the report form or email support@simple-host.app. Include:
- the full address (URL) of the site or page;
- what is wrong with it, and why;
- how to reach you, if you want an answer.
For copyright complaints, follow the copyright section below instead.
For a site that uses your trademark, name or likeness without permission, send the same details as a copyright notice, plus proof you hold the right. We do not judge defamation claims ourselves; for those we act on a court order.
If someone is in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services first. Reports made in bad faith, or repeated about the same content after we have decided, may be ignored.
Police, courts and regulators: email support@simple-host.app with the subject “Legal request”. We act on valid legal process. We tell the account holder unless the law forbids it or it would put someone in danger.
What happens next.
- We look at every report we receive.
- If content looks clearly harmful, such as child sexual abuse material, active phishing or a credible threat, we take it down at once.
- Otherwise we decide what to do. We may remove content, limit a site, suspend the account, or do nothing if we find no problem.
- We tell the site owner what we did, as described in If we act against your site or account.
We try to act quickly. Simple Host is run by one person, so we cannot promise a response time.
Copyright complaints (notice and takedown)
We respond to notices of copyright infringement under the US Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) and similar laws.
Our designated agent for copyright notices is Vineet Sriram, Simple Host, registered with the US Copyright Office (DMCA-1081064). The agent's full contact details are listed in the Copyright Office's DMCA Designated Agent Directory under “Simple Host”. Send notices to the address below.
To report infringement
Email support@simple-host.app with the subject “Copyright notice”. Your notice must include:
- your physical or electronic signature (typing your full name is enough);
- the work you say is infringed, or a list if there are several;
- the exact URL of each page or file you want removed;
- your name, postal address, phone number and email;
- a statement that you believe in good faith that the use is not authorised by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law;
- a statement that the information in your notice is accurate and, under penalty of perjury, that you are the copyright owner or are authorised to act for them.
We may ignore a notice that is missing any of this. We may send a copy of it, including your name and contact details, to the person whose content you reported. Knowingly false claims can make you liable for damages.
If your content was removed (counter-notice)
If you believe we removed your content by mistake, or you have permission to use it, email a counter-notice to support@simple-host.app. It must include:
- your physical or electronic signature;
- what was removed and the URL where it appeared;
- a statement, under penalty of perjury, that you believe in good faith it was removed by mistake or misidentification;
- your name, postal address and phone number;
- a statement that you consent to the jurisdiction of the federal court for your district (or, if you are outside the US, any judicial district where Simple Host may be found), and that you will accept service of process from the person who sent the original notice.
We send your counter-notice to the person who complained. Unless they tell us within 10 business days that they have gone to court, we may restore the content within 10 to 14 business days.
Repeat infringers
We close the accounts of people who repeatedly infringe copyright.
What we may do
To keep the service safe and legal, we may, at our discretion and with or without notice:
- remove, hide or disable any content or data;
- suspend or close any account or site;
- take back a handle, site name or free
<name>.simple-host.appaddress, for example if it is misleading, infringes a trademark, or is needed by the platform; - read any content or data on the service, including private lists, when we need to for moderation, security, support or the law;
- keep and share information with police, courts or authorities when we believe the law requires it, or to protect people or the service;
- keep a copy of removed content and the account's records as evidence, for as long as the law requires or a claim could still be made.
We have no duty to monitor content or to host anything. We are not liable to you for removing content or closing accounts under these terms.
If we act against your site or account
We email the address on the account with what we did and why, unless the law forbids it or the content sexually exploited children. You can ask us to look again by replying within 30 days with why you think we got it wrong. A person reads every appeal. We answer once, and that answer is final.
Keep your own copies
Sites and saved data can be lost through outages, bugs, mistakes, or the service closing. Keep your own copies of anything you care about. You can download a whole site, with its saved data, through the API, any list as a CSV, and everything you have with Download my data on your page.
No warranty
Simple Host is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied. That includes any warranty that it is fit for a particular purpose, secure, error-free, always available, or that data will be kept. Some places do not allow these exclusions. There, they apply as far as the law allows.
Limit on our liability
As far as the law allows:
- We are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive losses, or for lost profits, revenue, data, goodwill or business, even if we knew they were possible.
- Our total liability to you for all claims about Simple Host is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim (which, while the service is free, is zero) or US $50.
These limits apply whatever the legal theory. Nothing in these terms limits liability that the law does not allow to be limited, such as for fraud or, in some countries, for death or personal injury caused by negligence.
You cover claims caused by your use
If someone makes a claim against us because of your content, your sites, the data your sites collect, your AI apps' actions, your breach of these terms, or your breaking the law, you will defend us and pay the costs. That includes reasonable legal fees, damages and settlements. We will tell you about the claim and may choose to handle our own defence.
Ending things
- You can delete any of your sites at any time. Deleting moves the site to Recently deleted, restorable for 7 days; after that every version and its saved data are removed. Copies in our backups are gone within about 14 days.
- To close your account, choose Delete my account in the Your data section of your page. It deletes the account and all its data at once, and cannot be undone. Choose Download my data first to keep a copy.
- We may suspend or close your account at any time, including if you break these terms or we stop the service.
- If we stop the service entirely, we will try to give notice so you can save your content.
The sections on your content licence, visitor data, no warranty, limit on liability, indemnity, and disputes continue after your account ends.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. The date at the top shows the latest version. For changes that take away rights or add duties, we give at least 14 days' notice by email or on the site before they take effect, unless the law or a safety problem needs the change sooner. Other changes take effect when posted. If you keep using Simple Host after a change takes effect, you accept the new terms. If you do not agree, stop using the service.
Disputes and governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, USA, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute will be decided only in the courts of the state and federal courts located in California, and you and we agree to their jurisdiction. If you are a consumer, you keep any protections the law of your country gives you that cannot be waived.
Before going to court, please email us so we can try to sort it out.
General
- Entire agreement. These terms and the Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between you and us about Simple Host.
- Severability. If any part is found unenforceable, it is limited as little as needed, and the rest stays in force.
- No waiver. If we do not enforce a term right away, we can still enforce it later.
- Transfer. You may not transfer these terms. We may transfer them, for example to a company that takes over the service.
- Feedback. If you send ideas or suggestions, we may use them freely, without paying you.
- No other rights. These terms do not create a partnership, employment or agency, and give no rights to anyone else.
